August Arrives

Newsletter #5.
Wow! Summer flew by once again and it is time for school to start already. This month will be full of enrolling, registering, and shopping (and of course getting in those last few vacation days). We hope you enjoy the rest of your summer and try to stay out of the heat, it is here to stay for awhile!

Error Messages, what do they mean?
Windows, in its supposedly infinite wisdom, throws error after error at you ifyour system suffers the least little conflict. Many times, Windows will give you an error, and you just click OK without looking at it. Actually, those error messages can tell you more than you think. They can especially tell your support technician alot more than you think. It is important to remember the error, word for word, or jot it down before you call technical support. Those errors will aid in the effort of diagnosing your problem. So, read carefully or write down that message before you click OK, then give technical support a call.

Logon slow? This may be the reason.
Your home page, which can be anything you choose, is probably the most important page on the internet....to you that is. You want it to be comfortable to the eyes, load quickly, and offer many choices, options, and tools for maneuvering around on the internet. MSN, Yahoo, Netscape, etc. are very large servers and suffer from a great deal of traffice. If you use one of these pages as your home page, you may notice that it seems to take quite some time to completely open. If you would like to quicken that process we would like to invite you to use THE-CIA.net's home page as YOUR home page. We are a local server and you will notice that the page loads much faster. Plus, you will have access to important company information and links to support pages and our monthly newsletters. Our web address is www.the-cia.net. Come see us!

Norton Anti-Virus.
We have noticed that the new Norton Anti-Virus definition update seems to change an email configuration in Outlook Express to local machine instead of the-cia.net mail server. If you use Norton Anti-Virus and update your virus definitions, then, cannot retrieve your email, this is what you need to do.

1. Go into Outlook Express.

2. Click on Tools in your File menu, then click Accounts.

3. Click on the Mail tab at the top.

4. If you have more than one account, click on the first account, then click on the Properties button to the right.

5. Click on the Servers tab at the top.

6. Our mail servers are mail.the-cia.net. If you see the numbers 127.0.0.1, then retype to correct the mail server name to mail.the-cia.net.

7. If you have more than one account, just repeat these steps for the next account.

Our email to you.
Periodically, we send out important company, technical, and informational emails to all of our customers using their @the-cia.net email address provided by us. If you use a different email address, please email that address to webmaster@the-cia.net with a note letting us know that it is your preferred email address.

Thanks! THE-CIA.net Staff
